Over the past 12 months, we have focused on ensuring that our team is well supported through training, promotions, remuneration reviews and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

We implemented a ‘Hind Wage’ structure, allocated comprehensive training funds, implemented executive coaching & development to all our leaders and oversaw 25 internal promotions.

To care for our people's wellbeing at work we introduced Employee Life Cover, continued to offer St Johns mental health first aid training, and introduced casual attire to help our team bring their authentic selves to work. We take pride in knowing our team members have an inclusive working environment, modern tools to excel at what they do best, opportunities to grow, and the ability to engage in continuous learning.

“We promote all roles internally as a priority, and we are always open to upskilling and relocating staff across hotels and into other offices to grow their careers, recognise existing skills and develop new knowledge bases,” Phillipa Gimmillaro (Chief People Officer) says.

We have also facilitated Māori scholarships within our hotels, and we have a successful ongoing program in Rotorua with the Ngāti Whakaue Education Endowment Trust Board. All employees are encouraged to take up an employee development plan, and to have ongoing check-ins with their managers to track their wellbeing and career goals.”

Social and environmental responsibility underpins all of our operations, and this year, we have maintained a strong focus on inclusivity. We are currently undertaking a cultural competency review with Tutira Mai NZ to employ and progress more Māori into management positions, and look to expand our existing partnerships across Auckland, Rotorua, Kaikōura, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Accessibility is a key focus in business operations at HIND Management. We are a foundation member of the Accessible Tick programme, which helps New Zealand organisations become more accessible and inclusive to people with disabilities. Our Sudima Hotels brand is one of the most accessible hotels in New Zealand.

"We have a deep belief in empathy, understanding and accommodating differences, We believe we are all valued He Kura te Tangata, and we welcome all," says Phillipa.

“Our business will continue to be underpinned by strong values that centre on caring, doing the right thing, and working together.”
